A Victorian swing bridge in the north of the Isle of Man has reopened to traffic, after being shut for more than six months due to damaged decking.<\/p>\n

The Ramsey Swing Bridge was closed to vehicles in late January by the Department of Infrastructure after uncovering structural issues.<\/p>\n

Repairs took place after a hole was found on the causeway at the northern approach where the timber decking was rotting due to water penetration.<\/p>\n

Orignally opened in 1892, the swing bridge was given protected status in March 2023, and as the only structure of its type, the Department of Infrastructure said it was “committed to ensuring it is maintained accordingly”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Throughout the duration of the closure, the structure remained open to pedestrians and cyclists, and continued operating to facilitate access for boats to Ramsey’s inner harbour.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
