Takeaways from Trump&#8217;s &#8217;60 Minutes&#8217; interview."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON \u2014\u00a0President Donald Trump\u00a0said immigration enforcement officials\u00a0&#8220;haven\u2019t gone far enough&#8221;\u00a0in deporting people who are in the country without legal authorization, in a wide-ranging interview on \u201c60 Minutes\u201d on CBS.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also insisted to Norah O\u2019Donnell that China wouldn\u2019t invade Taiwan while he is president. The President and first lady welcomed military, law enforcement, and foster and adoptive families, as well as administration officials and their children, to the annual trick-or-treat celebration on the White House grounds.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Here is what to know about the interview conducted Oct. 31 at Trump&#8217;s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida:<\/p>\n<h2>Trump: ICE agents &#8216;haven&#8217;t gone far enough&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>O\u2019Donnell asked Trump\u00a0whether Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents had gone too far in\u00a0tackling a mother, using\u00a0tear gas in a Chicago neighborhood, and\u00a0smashing car windows.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No. I think they haven&#8217;t gone far enough because we&#8217;ve been held back by the judges, by the liberal judges that were put in by Biden and by Obama,&#8221; Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Donnell followed up by asking if Trump was OK with those tactics.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yeah, because you have to get the people out,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;You have to look at the people. Many of them are murderers. Many of them are people that were thrown out of their countries because they were, you know, criminals.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Trump on China talks: &#8216;I can&#8217;t give away my secrets&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>O\u2019Donnell said it could\u00a0become a\u00a0flashpoint in international relations\u00a0if China encroaches on Taiwan\u2019s shipping lanes, its airspace, or cyberspace. She asked what Trump would do in response.<\/p>\n<p>Trump refused to detail what would happen but said Xi understands the consequences would be significant. Trump said his counterpart\u2019s understanding is so clear that the subject didn\u2019t come up during their\u00a0trade meeting in South Korea.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I can&#8217;t\u00a0give away my secrets,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;I don&#8217;t\u00a0want to be one of these\u00a0guys that tells you exactly what&#8217;s gonna\u00a0happen if something happens.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Trump insisted Xi knows what would happen if China attacked Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He has openly said, and his people have openly said at meetings, &#8216;We would never do anything while\u00a0President Trump\u00a0is president,&#8217; because they know the consequences,&#8221; Trump said.<\/p>\n<h2>Trump says Maduro&#8217;s days in Venezuela are numbered<\/h2>\n<p>The Trump administration has sunk several Venezuelan\u00a0boats allegedly carrying drugs\u00a0and has\u00a0deployed an aircraft carrier to the region.<\/p>\n<p>Trump refused to say whether he sought to topple Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro\u2019s regime, but said his days are numbered.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would say yeah. I think so, yeah,&#8221; Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>Trump refused to speak about reports that he is considering an attack on Venezuelan land, in addition to the strikes on ships.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m not saying it\u2019s true or untrue,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;But I wouldn&#8217;t be inclined to say that I would do that because I don\u2019t talk to a reporter about whether or not I\u2019m going to strike.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Trump urges end to filibuster<\/h2>\n<p>The government shutdown will become the longest in history on Nov. 5. Trump said he expects Democrats to eventually agree to reopen the government.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have held out to restore Medicaid funding cuts during the summer and extend subsidies under the Affordable Care Act.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They\u2019ve become crazed lunatics,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;I\u2019m not going to do it by extortion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Trump urged Republicans to\u00a0abolish the Senate filibuster\u00a0to avoid the parliamentary block on ending the shutdown without cooperation from Democrats. But GOP leaders are opposed to ending the filibuster for legislation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Republicans have to get tougher,&#8221; Trump said.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong>Government shutdown:\u00a0<\/strong>Trump urges Senate Republicans to scrap filibuster rule<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Trump denies retribution in prosecuting critics<\/h2>\n<p>The Justice Department secured indictments against Trump critics, including\u00a0former national security adviser John Bolton,\u00a0former FBI Director James Comey, and\u00a0New York Attorney General Letitia James. Trump has lobbied against the election of\u00a0Zohran Mamdani, the front-runner in the polls against former Gov.
