Now, Gov. Greg Abbott is offering a $10,000 reward for his arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Bobby Michael Dennis, 64, allegedly\u00a0shot\u00a0an officer and a K-9 with the Jacksonville Police Department the evening of November 2, according to a press release. The officer is stable, but the suspect remains at large. Abbott announced on November 3 that the Governor\u2019s Public Safety Office was offering a\u00a0<strong>$10,000\u00a0reward\u00a0<\/strong>for Dennis\u2019 arrest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAttacks on our men and women in uniform must stop,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Abbott said in a press\u00a0release.\u00a0<strong>\u201cOur law enforcement officers who selflessly risk their lives every day to serve and protect must know they will always have the full support of the State of Texas.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jacksonville police issued arrest\u00a0warrants against Dennis on November 2 for aggravated assault against a public servant and interference with a police service animal, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas Department of Public Safety has also added Dennis to the\u00a010 Most Wanted Fugitives List.\u00a0The agency issued a blue\u00a0alert\u00a0on highways across the state, including the Dallas-Fort Worth area.<\/p>\n<p>Dennis was last\u00a0seen\u00a0near 920 Benson St. in Jacksonville around 4:40 p.m. the day of the shooting, according to Texas DPS. He is a black male, weighing 152 pounds and standing 5 feet 9 inches tall. Dennis was wearing all black clothing and was seen driving a gray 2012 GMC Sierra with Texas plate TRW 3919.<\/p>\n<p>Dennis is\u00a0<strong>\u201cconsidered armed and dangerous,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0according to the release. If residents see him, they should call 911.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information about Dennis\u2019 whereabouts should\u00a0call\u00a0Jacksonville police at 903-586-3333. Cherokee County Crime Stoppers is also offering a cash\u00a0reward\u00a0for information leading to his arrest. Residents can submit a tip at\u00a0903-586-7867.<\/p>\n<p>Dennis, armed with a rifle, allegedly\u00a0shot the officer around 4:41 p.m. The wounded officer was flown to a Tyler hospital, underwent surgery, and is currently stable.<\/p>\n<p>Soon after, Jacksonville police\u00a0urged\u00a0residents near Benson Memorial CME Church and 1100 Churchill St. to \u201cremain inside, lock all doors, and stay vigilant.\u201d Officials asked members of the public to avoid the area.<\/p>\n<p>Jacksonville ISD\u00a0closed\u00a0all schools on November 3 out of an abundance of caution during the \u201congoing manhunt,\u201d according to a press release. A large area near several district facilities was inaccessible for bus routes, preventing many families from traveling to school safely. District officials said they have been in constant communication with law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe safety and security of our students and staff remain our highest priority,\u201d officials\u00a0said\u00a0in the release. \u201cWe appreciate your understanding and cooperation as law enforcement continues their efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>The Dallas Express<\/i>\u00a0reached out to Jacksonville police, but did not hear back in time for publication.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTexas is a law-and-order state, and the dangerous criminal who attacked a Jacksonville police officer and their K-9 will experience the full weight of justice brought against him,\u201d Abbott said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When a suspect shot a Jacksonville police officer, he fled.
