Jean Carroll\u2019s defamation and sexual abuse case \u2013 the latest in a years-long saga\u00a0over the multi-million dollar jury award.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Trump had asked the court to replace his name, listed as the defendant in the case, with the United States\u00a0because he made defamatory comments about Carroll\u00a0within the scope of his first presidency \u2013\u00a0for which he has some immunity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A three-judge panel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit rejected the president\u2019s appeal, declining to hear his latest arguments. It comes\u00a0months after the president unsuccessfully tried to claim he had immunity\u00a0from litigation as a result of the Supreme Court\u2019s landmark ruling.<\/p>\n<div class=\"max-md:faux-bleed mb-4 bg-accent\/2 pb-5 md:invisible md:mb-0 md:h-0 md:overflow-hidden md:pb-0\">\n<div class=\"py-2 text-center text-xs uppercase\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"flex w-full flex-nowrap justify-center\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">For years, Trump has been trying to challenge the outcome of two cases that stem from\u00a0Carroll\u2019s 2019 accusations that Trump lied\u00a0about assaulting her in a department store during the 1990s. The jury awarded Carroll $5 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In 2024, a separate jury found Trump liable for defamation after he claimed he never met Carroll, that she made up her allegations to sell copies of her new book and that she wasn\u2019t his type.
