(Reuters) — Billionaire Elon Musk said Wednesday that he regrets some of his recent social media posts about U.S. President Donald Trump, admitting they “went too far.”
The comments come after a public back-and-forth between Musk and Trump that began last week, during which the Tesla and SpaceX CEO called the president’s major tax and spending package a “disgusting abomination.”
In response, Trump declared on Saturday that their relationship was over, though he later softened his stance, saying he wouldn’t object if Musk reached out to wish him well.
“I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far,” Musk wrote on X, the social media platform he owns, without specifying which posts he was referring to.
Following his statement, Tesla shares in Frankfurt rose by 2.44%.
Since the clash began, Musk has removed several posts criticizing Trump, including one where he appeared to support the president’s impeachment.
Sources familiar with the situation say Musk’s frustration has begun to ease, and that he may be considering mending ties with Trump.
