The Fairshake super PAC network will back 19 Republican House candidates and 13 Democratic hopefuls.
A deep-pocketed super PAC network funded by the cryptocurrency industry is set to deploy its war chest to help 32 House candidates spanning both parties in the final weeks before the midterm elections, the group announced Monday.
The PAC group, known as Fairshake, will back 19 Republican House candidates and 13 Democratic hopefuls. It is already spending big to help Republicans in the Ohio Senate race.
“Fairshake has always been and always will be an issue-focused organization,” a spokesperson for the group, Geoff Vetter, said in a statement. “We back pro-crypto candidates who support American innovation in both parties.”
Fairshake is funded primarily by three major players in the crypto industry: the digital asset companies Coinbase and Ripple and the venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz. It ended August with more than $120 million in the bank across the three super PACs it controls.
It is unclear how much money will be deployed to each race, but six candidates — three Democrats and three Republicans — will receive at least $1 million each in spending. That group includes Republican Reps. French Hill of Arkansas, Bill Huizenga of Michigan and Bryan Steil of Wisconsin — all members of the House Financial Services Committee, which oversees crypto policy. Democratic Reps. Janelle Bynum of Oregon, Steven Horsford of Nevada and Derek Tran of California will also receive a $1 million boost.
The group forayed into an array of primaries across the country, but the spending announced Monday represents its first play in general election House races so far.
“We’ve won 53 of the 57 races we engaged in this cycle and look forward to continuing to build on the largest pro-crypto caucus in American history,” Vetter said.
